Welcome to the Dartmoor Discovery 32 mile ultra marathon.  The only true road, one lap ultra marathon left in England, and, of course, the most scenic and toughest, with over 4,000 feet of ascents and descents, held entirely within the Dartmoor National Park.

The 'Discovery' is not a mass participation event, or a social fun day out with soup and sandwiches half way round,  but a serious race, emulating the classic road ultra's of days gone by, sadly now all defunct.  Ultra's like the London to Brighton 54, Exeter to Plymouth 44, SLH 30, Woodford to Southend 36, Isle of Man 40, Liverpool to Blackpool 48, Two Bridges, Scotland 36, Edinburgh to Glasgow 44,  plus annual 30, 40, 50 and 100 mile track races. (Most of them won with 6 minute per mile pace, or faster) (100 miles in less than 12 hours, not 30 hours with today's standards)

Maximum number of entrants for the 'Discovery' is 190 and although, of course, anyone can run for their favourite charity, the wearing of fancy dress will not be allowed.

It is not a race for novices and you need to have completed at least one marathon in under 4 and a half hours in the 18 months prior to the event.

Household names in the running world, such as Bruce Tulloh and David Bedford have attended the Dartmoor Discovery to present the awards and in 2010 we are honoured to welcome back Ian Thompson, 1974 European and Commonwealth Games marathon champion.  Ian also won  the 1980  London to Brighton classic in the fastest ever time, recording 5.81 min per mile, over a longer course of 54 miles 460 yards. Ian, with his wife Margaret, were very popular prize presenters in 2009

The Dartmoor Discovery is organized by ex ultra and marathon runners with many years of quality experience behind them, so all entrants are assured they will be well looked after.
